ANKIEWICZ Johann Mattheus
ANKIEWICZ
Johann Mattheus ANKIEWICZ * c.1846 Bomst, Prussia, ~ 22.9.1846 Bomst, + 6.3.1893 Ressano Garcia, Mozambique
x Constanzia Therese KIERZEK * 10.12.1845 Bomst, Prussia, + 15.12.1915 Pretoria.
Johann Mattheus Ankiewicz was born at Bomst, now Babimost, Poland. He is the son of Fartoris Ankiewicz and Marianna Perschke. Ankiewicz. At the time of his birth the town was in the Prussian Province of Posen. It had been part of Poland before 1793 and today again bears its Polish name, Babimost.
According to Ludwig Ankiewicz’ family genealogy published in Familia in 1992, the family farmed near Bomst. Johann Mattheus served in the Prussian army, and the family was Roman Catholic. Familia also records that he later received a medal in South Africa for service in the Ninth Frontier War of 1877–78.
Johann Mattheus Ankiewicz and Constanzia Therese Kierzek married at Dąbrówka, Poland, in 1869. Their older children were born in the Bomst/Babimost area of Prussia. The family later moved to Bremen, where some of the younger children were born or baptised. In 1877 Johann, Constanzia and six children travelled to Hamburg, where they embarked on the Adele for East London.
The Hamburg passenger list records Johann Ankiewicz, shoemaker (Schuster), aged 31, his wife Constantie, aged 32, and six children aboard the Adele, which sailed from Hamburg on 8 June 1877. The Adele arrived at East London on 22 August 1877.
The children on the passenger list were Josef, Franz, Paul, Albert, Carl and an infant Marie, aged under one year. This infant is likely the daughter later known as Hedwig Ankiewicz, whose age at marriage is consistent with a birth in 1876.
Constanzia’s sister Victoria Kierzek also emigrated on the Adele with her husband Leopold Waberski and their children. The Bomst Catholic marriage register records Leopold Waberski × Victoria Kierzek on 22 January 1862. The same register records Valentinus Kierzek × Theresia Pinieska on 9 November 1842; they were the parents of Constanzia and Victoria.

Johann Mattheus ANKIEWICZ * c.1846 Bomst, Pruise, ~ 22.9.1846 Bomst, + 6.3.1893 Ressano Garcia, Mosambiek
x Constanzia Therese KIERZEK * 10.12.1845 Bomst, Pruise, + 15.12.1915 Pretoria.
