BROEKMAN Nicolaus

Nicolaus Broekman
Born circa 1768 in Hanover, Germany; occupation: miller.
Died 14 August 1832 (aged about 64).
Married in Cape Town on 12 February 1797 to Christina Siemsen, daughter of Peter Siemsen of Hamburg (son of Simon Siemsen and Levina Jansen). Peter Siemsen was a clerk of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). Peter died on 24 April 1791.
Peter married in Cape Town on 8 September 1776 to Sibella Catharina van der Schyff, widow of Jan Paddenburg (married 29 January 1775).
Sibella Catharina was the daughter of Dirk van der Schyff (born circa 1719), who married Catharina Meyer on 6 July 1738, and secondly married Sophia Magdalena Schröder on 11 June 1758, originally from Zurich.

  3. Dorothea Sophia Margaretha Broekman, baptized in Cape Town on 7 June 1801; married in the Lutheran Church on 28 February 1830 to Friedrich Josephus Heinrich Dürr.
  4. Nicolaas Georg Broekman, born 1 June 1803; baptized in the Lutheran Church on 12 June 1803.
  5. Johann Andreas Christian Broekman, born 1 August 1805; baptized in the Lutheran Church on 8 September 1805.
  6. Johann Friedrich Georg Broekman, born 15 June 1807; baptized in the Lutheran Church on 26 July 1807; married Sara Johanna Carstens.
  7. Johannes Hendrik David Broekman, born 2 April 1809; baptized in the Lutheran Church on 11 June 1809; occupation: shoemaker; died at Salt River on 10 June 1838; married in the Lutheran Church on 30 August 1835 to Cornelia Holtman.

This is an inventory of all property left by the death of Nicolaas Broekman on 14 August 1832.

By his last will and testament, drawn up on 14 October 1829 before Notary Rynier Beck and witnesses, the deceased appointed as his sole and universal heirs the children born in lawful marriage with his late wife Christina Beyers, namely:

A perpetual quitrent farm called Welvergenoegd, with the buildings thereon, situated at the Diep River in the Cape District, measuring eleven morgen and 294 square roods.
