CAROLIN Edward Richard

Edward, the Irish ancestor, was born in Baile Átha Cliath, Ireland on 24 March 1844. He was the son of Samuel J and Matilda J E DUNKIN.
He married Henrietta HAMILTON (*1845) in Ireland.

They had the following children born in Dún na nGall, Ireland:

b1 Henry Dunkin * 28 January 1867, † 24 January 1963 in New South Wales, Australia (married E. HERMAN)
b2 Edward Marley de Laun * 23 April 1870, † 1951 (married E.O. de ROEBUCK)
b3 Richard Blake * 19 October 1874, † 30 October 1874
b4 Hamilton George * 8 June 1876

Edward Richard came to South Africa in 1879. They had one son born in South Africa, whose descendants are still carrying the CAROLIN surname:

b5 Harold William * 10 April 1881, † 8 March 1967. He was known as Paddy. He was a lawyer. He was a Springbok rugby player and the second Rugby Captain in 1906. He played inside centre. He X Cecil Magdalene FAURE (1892-1981). She was the daughter of Sir Pieter H and Lady Johanna S van der BIJL. This marriage into the FAURE family and subsequently marriages of their descendants into the MELCK family, made them quite wealthy. Harold and Cecil have both memorial plagues in the Maitland Crematorium in Cape Town.
It is uncertain if Edward, the Irish Progenitor, and his wife Henrietta died in South Africa or went back to Ireland.
